What Is Draw No Bet?

Draw No Bet (DNB) is a football betting market that eliminates the draw as a possible outcome. When you place a DNB wager, you back one team to win. If your team wins, you collect the payout. If the match ends in a draw, your stake is returned in full. You only lose if the team you backed loses.

This market sits between the standard match result (1X2) and the more complex Asian handicap. It is sometimes called “Moneyline with Draw Refund” in other betting traditions. The odds are lower than for a straight win because the draw risk is removed, but DNB provides significantly more security — particularly when backing favourites in tight matches where a stalemate is a realistic outcome.

DNB is ideal for bettors who have a strong opinion on which team will win but want insurance against the draw. It reduces the number of possible outcomes from three to two, simplifying the decision while only modestly reducing the potential payout.

DNB vs Match Result vs Asian Handicap

Understanding how DNB relates to other markets helps you choose the right bet:

Match Result (1X2): You choose Home, Draw, or Away. Higher odds for the win outcomes because you carry the draw risk. A draw means you lose your stake entirely.

Draw No Bet: You choose Home or Away only. Lower odds because the draw gives a refund. Effectively a two-outcome market with a safety net built in.

Asian Handicap 0.0: Functionally identical to Draw No Bet. If you bet on a team at AH 0.0 and the match draws, your stake is returned. The difference is usually presentation and which platform you are using. In practice, odds between DNB and AH 0.0 should be almost identical — if you notice a difference between bookmakers, it could represent a value opportunity.

When to Use Draw No Bet

DNB is most valuable in these scenarios:

Backing a Slight Favourite in a Tight Match: When you are confident a team will win but acknowledge the draw is possible — for example, a top-six side visiting a solid mid-table team — DNB reduces your risk significantly.

Cup Matches and Derbies: In knockout fixtures and derby matches, form is unreliable. DNB lets you back your preferred team with protection against a tense, low-scoring stalemate.

Building Accumulators: Adding DNB selections to accumulators gives a partial safety net. If one leg draws, the acca continues rather than losing entirely — the drawn leg is voided.

When Draw Probability Is High: If a match has roughly equal probabilities for all three outcomes, using DNB on your preferred result offers much better risk-adjusted value than the 1X2 market.

Late-Season Dead Rubbers: When teams have nothing to play for, matches often meander to a draw. DNB protects you in these low-motivation scenarios.

Draw No Bet Strategy Tips

Track Draw Rates by League: Some leagues produce far more draws than others. In leagues with high draw rates — such as the EFL Championship — DNB offers more insurance value per bet.

Combine with Form Analysis: Use DNB when backing a team in good form against an opponent that has been drawing frequently. This leverages the form advantage without risking a stalemate.

Use for Away Bets: Away wins are statistically less common than home wins, but away draws are relatively frequent. DNB is particularly useful when backing a team away from home where draw probability spikes.

Compare Across Bookmakers: DNB margins vary between operators more than match result margins. Shopping around for the best DNB odds can significantly improve your long-term returns. Even small differences in DNB pricing compound across hundreds of bets.

Monitor In-Play DNB: Some bookmakers offer in-play DNB. If a favourite falls behind in a match where you expect them to equalise, in-play DNB can offer excellent value at temporarily inflated odds.
