How to play the Daily Footy 5

The format is barely worth explaining, which is rather the point: five multiple-choice questions, identical for everyone that day, about a minute of your life. You tap, you learn straight away whether you were right, and the quiz carries you to the next one. At the end comes a score out of five and a streak that lives or dies on whether you bothered to come back at all.

What keeps it interesting is the spread. A question on which country won the very first World Cup rewards anyone who remembers Uruguay lifting it on home soil in 1930; one on the Champions League's all-time leading scorer (Cristiano Ronaldo, and it is not close) rewards the stat-hoarders; a laws-of-the-game poser rewards whoever actually read the rulebook. Oddly, I find the record-book questions catch out the committed watchers more than the casual ones, because those fans are so sure they already know. Two or three land easily enough. The fifth tends to be the one that decides your afternoon.

One quiz, the whole world, every 24 hours

Because the date decides the five questions, everyone opening the quiz today gets the identical set, which makes it the quickest way to settle a group-chat row about who really follows the sport. It rolls over at midnight UTC. The moment you finish, today's quiz locks, so there is no quiet second attempt to flatter a score.

The streak is the real game

Complete the five and your streak gains a point. Alongside it the quiz keeps your best-ever run, your games played and your lifetime correct answers, none of which ever leaves the browser you are reading this in. Miss a single day and the count falls to nothing. Honestly, a healthy streak you would rather not surrender drags you back far harder than any phone reminder could.

Getting all five

A clean sweep is harder than the one-minute pitch makes it sound. Two things that genuinely help:

  • Glance at the category tag before you read too quickly. A question flagged "Laws" wants a rule, not a result, and that one word often points straight at the answer.
  • Back your first instinct. These lean on what you already know, and the wrong options tend to be the ones you talk yourself into on a second read.
  • Just keep showing up. The pool runs deep and shuffles daily, so the people on the longest streaks mostly win on sheer exposure.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Daily Footy 5?

It is a free daily football trivia quiz. Each day brings five multiple-choice questions spanning the World Cup, the Champions League, the Premier League, famous clubs, great players and the laws of the game. A round takes about a minute.

Is there a new quiz every day?

There is. One set of five questions is chosen for everyone from the date, so the quiz turns over every 24 hours and your score lines up directly against a friend's. Come back daily to keep the streak going.

How does the streak work?

Complete the day's five questions and your streak rises by one. The game saves your current streak, best streak, games played and total correct answers privately in your browser. Skip a day and the streak falls to zero, so tomorrow always matters.

Do I need to sign up or pay?

Neither is required. There is no account, no email and no money involved. Everything is stored locally in your browser through local storage, so nothing is sent to a server.

Can I share my result?

When you finish, hit Share to copy a spoiler-free emoji summary of how many you got right and your current streak. It passes the challenge on without giving the answers away.

Where do the questions come from?

Each question rests on a well-known, publicly verifiable piece of football history, such as Uruguay winning the first World Cup in 1930 or Alan Shearer being the Premier League's record scorer. We avoid obscure trivia and volatile live figures, so the quiz stays fair and never goes out of date.
