How the World Cup 2026 predictor works

This is a free, interactive way to predict the FIFA World Cup 2026 without any betting or sign-up. The 48-team tournament is split into 12 groups of four; the top two from each group, plus the eight best third-placed sides, advance to a 32-team knockout phase that ends with the final on 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey. Your job is simple: pick who finishes first and second in each group, then back the team you think will win the whole thing.

Everything you choose is stored locally in your own browser — nothing is sent to a server and there is no account to create. That means you can close the tab, come back days later mid-tournament and your bracket is still there, ready to be tweaked as form changes. As soon as a group's six matches are complete, the predictor compares your picks to the real result and shows your running score, so it doubles as a reason to check back after every matchday.

Scoring

You collect 3 points for nailing a group winner and 2 points for a correct runner-up (we count it whenever the team genuinely finishes in the top two, even if you flipped first and second). On top of that, your predicted champion is worth a 5-point bonus for as long as they are still in the tournament. The maximum from the group stage alone is 60 points before the champion bonus — see how close you can get.

Frequently asked questions

What is the World Cup 2026 predictor?

It is a free interactive game where you predict the World Cup 2026. You pick which two teams finish first and second in each of the 12 groups, then choose your overall tournament winner from the 48 teams. Your picks are saved in your browser so you can come back, edit them and check your score as real results come in.

How do I score points?

You earn 3 points for correctly picking a group winner, 2 points for the runner-up (even in the wrong order it still counts as a qualifier) and a bonus 5 points if your predicted champion is still alive. Scoring updates automatically as each group is decided — no need to re-enter anything.

Do I need to sign up or pay?

No. There is no account, no email and no money involved. The predictor runs entirely in your browser using local storage, and it is completely free. It is a fun engagement tool, not a betting product.

Can I share my World Cup predictions?

Yes. Hit the Share button and you get a link that encodes your exact picks. Anyone who opens it sees your bracket pre-filled, so you can challenge friends to beat your score or post it on social media.

When will the knockout bracket be added?

Right now the predictor covers the group stage and your champion pick, because the knockout matchups are only confirmed once the 12 groups finish. As soon as the Round of 32 pairings are set we will add a full knockout bracket predictor on this page.

Who are the World Cup 2026 favourites?

Pre-tournament favourites typically include holders and traditional powers such as Argentina, France, Brazil, England and Spain, with hosts the USA, Canada and Mexico enjoying home advantage. The predictor lets you back your own pick rather than the bookmakers — use the live group tables on our hub to inform your choices.
