FC Internazionale Milano were founded on 9 March 1908 by 44 members who split from the Milan Cricket and Football Club because they wanted to field foreign players — the club's name "Internazionale" reflects that founding principle of openness.
The José Mourinho era from 2008 to 2010 culminated in the 2010 treble: Serie A, Coppa Italia, and the Champions League — the only treble in Italian football history. Diego Milito's two goals in the Bernabéu final against Bayern remain among the most-replayed moments in Italian football.
After a long rebuild, Antonio Conte returned Inter to the Serie A summit in 2020–21. Simone Inzaghi succeeded Conte and has anchored a side that reached the 2023 Champions League final (lost 1-0 to Manchester City) and won the 20th Scudetto with games to spare in 2023–24.
